MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR AUGUST 12, 2020

A meeting of the Common Council was held on August 12, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.     

ROLL CALL: Steve Bell, Brad Deal, Shane Litz, Angela Modesitt, and Mayor Brian Wyndham.  Karen Boes was absent.   

The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

OTHERS PRESENT:

  • City Attorney Traci Orman, Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen, Graig Bass City of Brazil Police Officer and Union President, Frank Phillips with the Brazil Times, Jason Monett City of Brazil Resident, Holly True representative from American Water and Justin Snyder representative from American Water. 

PRAYER was said by Angie Modesitt.             

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Shane Litz made a motion to approve the July 8,2020 and July 22, 2020 minutes seconded by Brad Deal.  The motion passed 4-0.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

OLD BUSINESS:    NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Police Union – Graig Bass, Union President was present to request with council the desire to maintain the money for dispatch services within the Brazil City Police Departments Budget.  Council agreed to take request under advisement. 
  2. American Water Representatives Holly True and Justin Snyder – Were present to discuss with council the possible of the City of Brazil selling their water and wastewater utility.  Packet of information attached to minutes.
  3. Application for chicken coop – Jason Monett was present with  his application requesting approval to have a chicken coop at 1331 Pinecrest Drive in Edgewood Subdivision.  Attached to the application were 14 signatures from his neighbors in favor of chicken coop.  Brad Deal made a motion to approve the application at 1331 Pinecrest Drive in Edgewood Subdivision for Jason Monett to have a chicken coop, seconded by Shane Litz

Passed 4-0.

MAYOR COMMENTS:

Mayor informed council members that Steve Bell, Brian Bemis and himself went out to the Old City Coal Yard to review the potential of purchase at $75,000 for placement of the new Street Department Building.  Mayor Wyndham stated that he is still waiting on the pricing for the new building that would be going up.  Mayor Wyndham also stated that the Façade Grant and Round 3 of the Community Crossing Grant were moving along nicely. 

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:

Work Sessions for the 2021 City of Brazil Budgets – Work Sessions set for August 26, 2020 at 5pm and September 3, 2020 at 8am.    

ADJOURNMENT: Brad Deal made a motion to adjourn meeting; seconded by Steve Bell.  The motion passed 4-0.  Meeting adjourned at 6:04 p.m.
