MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR DECEMBER 5, 2018

A meeting of the Common Council was held on December 5, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.               

ROLL CALL: Steve Bell, Roy Kellar, Angela Modesitt, Brad Deal, Shane Litz and Mayor Brian Wyndham.   

The Pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

OTHERS PRESENT: City Attorney Traci Orman and Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen.

PRAYER was said by Angie Modesitt.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: NONE   

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: NONE

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Additional Appropriations – Ordinance 17-2018.  Shane Litz made a motion to suspend the rules and pass Ordinance 17-2018 on the first reading, seconded by Steve Bell.  Passed 5-0.  Shane Litz made a motion to approve, seconded by Steve Bell.  Passed 5-0. 
  2. Brian Bemis needing approval to spend the remainder of LRS Funds and to use monies from the 2019 budget to purchase a new Leaf Machine for the City of Brazil.  Leaf machine will cost roughly $53,000, with $26,000 from 2018 LRS Budget and $27,000 from the 2019 Budget.  Roy Kellar made a motion to approve purchase of Leaf machine and payment of Leaf Machine, seconded by Brad Deal.  Passed 5-0. 
  3. Bonus’s for employees – Mayor Brian Wyndham and Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen stated that they would pay for the bonus’s for employees out of there budgets if it was needed.  Bonus’s would be for the employees only and not for elected officials.  Steve Bell made a motion to approve $250.00 bonus to the City of Brazil employees, excluding elected officials, seconded by Brad Deal.  Passed 5-0.

COUNCIL COMMENTS:  NONE

MAYOR COMMENTS:

  • Mayor Brian Wyndham commented on the Community Crossings Grant that was received for the City of Brazil.  Paving to start in 2019. 
  • Mayor Wyndham also reminded everyone of the Christmas Luncheon @ Bethel Church on 12-14-2018 at noon.    
  • Mayor Brian Wyndham also stated that the Duke Building’s construction will soon be coming along.  Duke has finally returned bid for the lighting on the building.  There has been a huge savings and the final cost would be $15,000 with the City paying $7,000.

Next Meeting scheduled for 12-19-2018 @ 5 pm  

ADJOURNMENT: Brad Deal made a motion to adjourn meeting; seconded by Roy Kellar.  The motion passed 5-0.  Meeting adjourned at 5:37 p.m.
