THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR SEPTEMBER 9, 2020

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on September 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Traci Orman.

OTHERS PRESENT: Police Chief Clint McQueen, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Brazil Times Editor Frank Phillips

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from August 26, 2020; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0

NEW BUSINESS: 

Street Cut and Right of Way -Joink – Joink is requesting to do street cuts near the hospital around Pine St. and Lenox St., to bring broadband services to the hospital.  Joink will be repairing any street cuts made.  Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Street Cuts and Right of Way Permit for Joink, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.

  • Approval of Mowings (see list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the mowing list for September 9, 2020; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.
  • Approval of Cleanups (see list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the cleanup list for September 9, 2020; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.

POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen

  • There were 1712 calls for service in August which led to 93 incident reports, 31 arrests, 50 tickets, 129 warnings, 20 crashes, 19 vehicle impounds and 19 handgun permits.
  • There are currently 2 officer positions open and applications are being reviewed.
  • Police will assist with the Mayor’s Ride for the Humane Society on Saturday August 12th.
  • Linda Messmer asked Chief McQueen if there was much difference in stats from last March to this year due to Covid-19.  Chief McQueen stated that there was possibly a downward trend in March 2020, but it has been steady since.

CLAIMS:

  1. Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office; seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.
  2. Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
