THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR AUGUST 10, 2022

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on August 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.

Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Traci Orman

OTHERS PRESENT: Police Chief Clint McQueen, Water Superintendent Shawnette Szekely, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Asst. Cathy Hunter, Brazil Times Representative Gretchen Stone

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from July 27, 2022, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

OLD BUSINESS: None

     NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Splash Pad – Kristy Jerrell Agreement and Invoices – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Agreement for Professional Project Management Services between the City of Brazil and Jerrell Consulting & Grant Administration Services, LLC and Invoices 1 and 2 totaling $7000.00, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.  Total agreement costs are $10,000.
  2. Right of Way Permit – 8275 Jade Court (Miller Pipeline for Center Point Energy) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve a Right of Way Permit for Miller Pipeline for service at 8275 Jade Court, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.
  3. Safe Haven Baby Box Contract – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Lease and Service Agreement between Safe Haven Baby Boxes, Inc. and the City of Brazil for installation and annual services connected with a Safety Device installed on the City of Brazil Fire Department premises, pursuant to the Safe Haven Laws, contingent upon final approval by the City Attorney, and contingent upon Council approval for funding, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0. 
  4. Phone Stipend – Robert Davis and Dave Lawson – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve Robert Davis and Dave Lawson for a monthly cell phone stipend, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

CLAIMS:

  1. Clerk’s Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
  2. Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: The next Board of Works Meeting is on August 24, 2022.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Meeting was adjourned at 10:18 a.m.
