MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR DECEMBER 28, 2016

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on December 28, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, City Attorney Traci Orman, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett
OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Planning and Zoning Assistant Teresa Glenn, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Brazil Times Representative Frank Phillips
PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was lead by Mayor Wyndham.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: December 14, 2016 minutes; Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.

FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Jake Bennett
• Fire Prevention and Public Outreach – The City of Brazil partnered with the American Red Cross to reach out to homes with door hangers encouraging residents to make arrangements to have firefighters install free smoke detectors and discuss home fire escape plans. Primary focus this December has been the South East area of the City.
• Firefighters responded to 3 motor vehicle accidents during the month of December.
• Firefighters responded to 6 structure fires during December at Cooper Towers(2), National Avenue, Mechanic Street, Meridian Tower at Whiterock Road.
• Chief Officers and On Duty personnel participated in the Local Emergency Planning Commissions table top exercise held at the Clay Community Schools Administration Building. LEPC is a county wide commission that provides training through grant money.

NEW BUSINESS:
1.) Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan Invoices – 9 invoices were submitted for approval from Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan for attorney fees for the following BEP Properties: 621 E. Mechanic/Allen, 305 N. Alabama/Wilson, 940 W. Knight/Godsey/Norris, 420 E. Darley/Rissler, 704 S. Depot/Rissler, 348 N. Colfax/Veach, 18 W. Blaine/Stephens, 503 W. Kruzan/Flake, 914 S. Walnut/Fisher. This is the second half of the claims for attorney fees. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve invoices from Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan for attorney fees regarding BEP properties; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

CLAIMS:
Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Linda Messmer seconded. The motion passed 3-0.
Utilities’ Office –Linda Messmer made a motion to approve, with one claim for adjustment approved upon contingent that repairs are complete. Ruthann Jeffries seconded. The motion passed 3-0.
