MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR OCTOBER 25, 2023

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on October 25, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham

The Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Ruthann Jeffries, Mayor Wyndham, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, and City Attorney Traci Orman (Linda Messmer was absent.)

OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Firefighters Chris Moon, Cody Byers and Cody Garrison, Water Superintendent Shawnette Szekely, MS4 Inspector Cara Mackenzie, Brazil Times Hayley Cooper.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the minutes from October 11, 2023, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

PUBLIC SAFETY: None

     OLD BUSINESS: None

     NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Fire Union Contract: 2024-2026 – Tabled to November 8th meeting.
  2. Stormwater – Agreement with Christopher Burke – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve an Agreement between Christopher B. Burke Engineering, LLC and the City of Brazil for professional engineering and planning services related to implementation of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System General Permit (MS4GP) requirements, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.
  3. US 40 Project Update – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve payment of any outstanding pay applications due to Van Hoy & Sons, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.  The percentage of the retainage to be released for payment will be decided at the next meeting.

CLAIMS:

  1.  Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.
  2. Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:

  • The next Board of Works meeting will be on November 8, 2023.

   ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mayor Wyndham seconded  

   by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 2-0.  The meeting was adjourned at 10:11 a.m.
