MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR OCTOBER 11, 2023

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on October 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Ruthann Jeffries.

The Pledge was led by Ruthann Jeffries.

ROLL CALL: Linda Messmer, Ruthann Jeffries, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, and City Attorney Traci Orman (Mayor Wyndham was absent.)

OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Assistant Cathy Hunter, Brazil Times Hayley Cooper.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from September 27, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

PUBLIC SAFETY: None

     OLD BUSINESS: None

     NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Fire Union Contract: 2024-2026 – Tabled to October 25th meeting.
  2. Wastewater: Amending 2023 Mow Contract for 2 Additional Mows: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve 2 additional mows for King Lawn Care for the Wastewater properties for the 2023 season for a total of 28 mows, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.
  3. Public Facilities Grant: Agreement with State – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Grant Agreement between the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (IOCRA) and the City of Brazil for an award of $20,000 to fund a Public Facilities Feasibility Study, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.
  4. Planning and Zoning
  5. Mowing (see attached list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Mowing List for October 11, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.
  6. Clean Ups (see attached list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Clean Up List for October 11, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.

CLAIMS:

  1.  Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 2-0.
  2. Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:

  • The next Board of Works meeting will be on October 25, 2023.

   ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Linda Messmer seconded  

   by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 2-0.  The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
