MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR JANUARY 23, 2019

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on January 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Linda Messmer, City Attorney Traci Orman, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett.  Ruthann Jeffries was absent.

OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Street Superintendent Brian Bemis, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Brazil Times Rep Ivy Jacobs, Daniel Rose           

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Wyndham.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from January 9, 2019; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: NONE

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Award Bid Package on Paving – Three bids were received and opened at the January 9, 2019 meeting for the 2019 Street Resurfacing Project.
  2. Wabash Valley Asphalt, LLC – $888,474.36
  3. Grady Brothers, Inc. – $1,237,713.82
  4. Dave O’Mara Contractor, Inc. – $979,042.00

After reviewing the bids, the engineers have recommended the award be given to Wabash Valley Asphalt for $888,474.36.  Mayor Wyndham made a motion to award the 2019 Street Resurfacing Project to Wabash Valley Asphalt, approve the agreement between the City of Brazil and Wabash Valley, execute the Notice of Award and authorize Mayor as signatory for any future documents; seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 2-0.

  • Add Jace Weir to Cell Phone Reimbursement (Water Distribution) -Linda Messmer made a motion to approve Jace Weir be added to the Cell Phone Reimbursement list; seconded by Mayor Wyndham. The motion passed 2-0
  • 717 E. Mechanic St.-Affirmation of Unsafe House – Linda Messmer made a motion to affirm 717 E. Mechanic St. as Unsafe; seconded by Mayor Wyndham. The motion passed 2-0.

CLAIMS: 

  1. Clerk – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0
  2. Utilities – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mayor Wyndham; seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 2-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:07 a.m.
