MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR MAY 24, 2023

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on May 24, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

The Pledge was led by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Brian Wyndham, Linda Messmer, Ruthann Jeffries, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, (City Attorney Traci Orman was absent)

OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Street Superintendent Brian Bemis, Frank Phillips.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from May 10, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

    NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Community Crossing 2023-1
    1. Engineer’s Recommendation
    1. Notice of Award
    1. Agreement with Contractor
    1. Notice to Proceed (contingent upon receiving all documents from Contractor)
    1. Agreement with GAI (Construction Inspection)

Two bids were received for the 2023 Street Resurfacing Project on May 10, 2023, from Milestone Contractors South, LLC and E&B Paving, LLC.  GAI Consultants reviewed each bid, and it is the engineer’s recommendation that the contract be awarded to E&B Paving, LLC for $261,531.00.   Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Notice of ward, Agreement with Contractor, Notice to Proceed (contingent upon receiving all documents from the Contractor) and Agreement with GAI, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.

  • Planning & Zoning
    • Mowing (see attached list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the mowing list for May 10, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.
    • Clean Ups (see attached list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the mowing list for May 10, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.
    • Unsafe – Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan is working on unsafe properties.  This is tabled until the next meeting.

Clerk’s Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:

  • The next Board of Works meeting will be on June 14, 2023.

   ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries, seconded  

   by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:07 a.m.
