THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR JUNE 10, 2020

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on June 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham

ROLL CALL: Ruthann Jeffries, Mayor Wyndham, City Attorney Traci Orman, and Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett.  Linda Messmer was absent.

OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Planning and Zoning Assistant Cathy Hunter, Street Superintendent Brian Bemis, Grant Administrator Kristy Jerrell, Jenny Aikman from Advanced Restoration, Robert Kemna from Kemna Restoration, Cal Jordan and Alan Knepp from Myszak & Palmer

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve minutes from May 27, 2020; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

POLICE CHIEF REPORT – Chief Clint McQueen

  • The Police Department received 1873 calls for service in May which lead to 92 incident reports, 44 arrests, 108 tickets, 184 warnings, 15 crashes, 55 vehicle impounds and 8 handgun permits.
  • Mayor Wyndham thanked Chief McQueen for his service and quick action with recent events within the community.

NEW BUSINESS: 

  1.  Open Façade Bids – The City was awarded an OCRA grant for downtown Façade Improvements.  Two bids were received by 10:00.  One bid was received via FedEx after 10:00 and was rejected.  Alan Knepp from Myszak and Palmer opened  and read 2 bids. (The bid tabulation sheet is attached.)  The bids will go under review and will be awarded at the next Board of Works’ meeting on June 24th
  2. Auction Contract for Zack Wise – The City has Real Property to auction and has agreed to contract Zach Wise as auctioneer.  Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Real Estate Auction Contract between the City of Brazil and Zach Wise, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.  The Auction will be held on June 17th.
  3. Approval for Mowing – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mowing list for June 10, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.
  4. Approval of Clean Up List – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the clean up list for June 10, seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

CLAIMS:

Clerk’s Office – Mayor Wyndham made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s   Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0

Utilities’ Office -Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:21 a.m.
