MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR JUNE 10, 2020

A meeting of the Common Council was held on June 10, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.     

ROLL CALL: Steve Bell, Karen Boes, Shane Litz, Angela Modesitt, and Mayor Brian Wyndham.  Brad Deal was absent.   

The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

OTHERS PRESENT:

  • City Attorney Traci Orman and Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen.

PRAYER was said by Brad Deal.                     

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Steve Bell made a motion to approve the May 13, 2020 minutes seconded by Angie Modesitt.  The motion passed 4-1. Brad Deal abstained.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

OLD BUSINESS:    NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Ordinance #12-2020 Repealing Title V (Public Works), Chapter 53 (Water Regulations), Section 53.074 (Delinquent Locations) : Brad Deal made a motion to suspend the rules and pass Ordinance #12-2020 on the first reading, seconded by Karen Boes.  Passed 5-0.  Brad Deal then made a motion to pass Ordinance #12-2020, seconded by Karen Boes.  Passed 5-0. 

COUNCIL COMMENTS:

Brad Deal – Inquired about getting the City of Brazil’s new logo on the water tower located by I-70 hwy.   Mayor Brian Wyndham stated that he would get an estimate for the logo.

Steve Bell – Stated to the Mayor that he would also like Mayor Brian Wyndham to get cost estimates for the city trucks.  Steve Bell also would like someone to look at, businesses here in town, that have multiple junk cars, around 20-30.  He would like to know how many a business is allowed to have.   Mayor Brian Wyndham stated that Steve should contact Janet McClellan in Planning and Zoning. 

MAYOR COMMENTS:

Mayor informed council members that the city has partnered with the Clay County Food Pantry and will have there first food distribution on June 13, 2020 for the Covid–19 Food Grant, @ First Christian Church.  There will be 150 kits with approximately 95 items in each kit.  Mayor Brian Wyndham explained that there will be a total of 4 distributions and that all items for the kits have been purchased locally.   

ADJOURNMENT: Brad Deal made a motion to adjourn meeting; seconded by Shane Litz.  The motion passed 5-0.  Meeting adjourned at 5:29 p.m.
