MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR AUGUST 11, 2021

A meeting of the Common Council was held on August 11, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. in Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.        

ROLL CALL: Steve Bell, Shane Litz, Brad Deal, Angie Modesitt and Karen Boes.    

The Pledge to the American Flag was led by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

OTHERS PRESENT:

  • Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen and City Attorney Traci Orman

PRAYER was said by Steve Bell.                      

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: July 14, 2021 minutes were tabled.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Council stated that they are still not in compliance with the city ordinance.  Angie Modesitt made a motion to Reject Chicken Coop, seconded by Brad Deal.  They must re-apply.  Motion passed 5-0.
  • Steve Bell made a motion to postpone the 2021 repayment of $20,000.00 to the City of Brazil until 2025, seconded by Karen Boes.  Motion passed 5-0.  City Attorney Traci Orman to draft Resolution for September 2021 meeting. 

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. New Hope Services Tax Abatement Resolution – City Attorney Traci Orman explained to Council that this is a clean-up of a prior tax abatement, Resolution 5-2021.  Public Hearing and discussion of Resolution to be done at September 22, 2021 meeting. 

COUNCIL COMMENTS:  

Shane Litz – Talked to Junie’s Donuts about paving of their parking lot in the future.  Shane also wanted to recognize the passing of Doctor Charles French and the impact on the community that he had made over the years.   

Brad Deal – Stated that 2 of his neighbors have approached him that live at the corner of Columbia and Midland and the 2 sidewalks flood.  Mayor Brin Wyndham said that he would have Dallas King the Wastewater superintendent look at this area.  A ditch may need to be re-established in this area. 

Karen Boes – Stated that Mike Downing approached her about continued drainage issues by his home.  Karen explained that she told Mr. Downing that there was not much that the City could do to fix this issue, outside of storm water drains being installed.    

Angie Modesitt – Stated that the alley behind Jim Deal Law Office was in need of repairs, she explained that Integrity Title Services had put in the request.  Angie also stated that Fifi’s restaurant has left a grease trap on the back lot of their building as well and it needs removed. 

MAYOR COMMENTS: None

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:  Council Meeting scheduled for September 8, 2021 and September 22, 2021.  Budget Work Session scheduled for August 25, 2021. 

ADJOURNMENT: Brad Deal made a motion to adjourn meeting; seconded by Angie Modesitt.  Passed 5-0.  Meeting adjourned at 5:27 p.m.
