MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR AUGUST 14, 2019

 

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on August 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Brian Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, and City Attorney Traci Orman.

OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Council Member Steve Bell, Brazil Times Editor Frank Phillips and Mr. Daniel Rose

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Wyndham.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from July 24, 2019; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

 

            POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen

  • There were 599 calls for service in July leading to 57 incident reports, 20 arrests, 20 tickets, 46 warnings, 18 crashes, 7 vehicle impounds, 6 handgun permits
  • National Night Out was success
  • New officers Damon and Cannon are almost done with training at the Academy and there will be a new hire in September bringing the Police Dept. to fully staffed.
  • Fall Events will include the Route 40 Fest on 9/21, Covered Bridge traffic control and various 5K events.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Mowing (see list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mowing list for August 14, 2019, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
  • Cleanups (see list) -Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Mowing list for August 14, 2019, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

 

 

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Daniel Rose commented that the property next to him looks great.  Mayor Wyndham said that the City will still look at the property and take care of any other issues.

 

CLAIMS: 

  • Clerk – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0
  • Utilities – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.

 

FUTURE AGENDA: City Attorney Traci Orman commented that the September 11th             meeting may need to be moved due to the 9/11 ceremony scheduled for that day.  The                   Board will discuss and make a decision as to a new date and time for that meeting.

 

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:19 a.m.
