MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR JULY 10, 2019

 

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on July 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett. City Attorney Traci Orman was absent.

OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Council Member Steve Bell, Daniel Rose

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Wyndham.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from June 26, 2019; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

OLD BUSINESS:

  • Façade Grant Bids -Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to reject all bids for the Façade Grant, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

           

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Affirmation of Unsafe Property -622 N. Colfax St. – Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan said that the Building Inspector has inspected and recommends that the property be deemed unsafe. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Affirmation of Unsafe Building Order for 622 N. Colfax, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.
  • Resolution 3-2019 -Resolution Accepting Real Property, 608 W. Compton –The property at 608 W. Compton is unsafe and needs to be demolished. After review, the City is willing to accept the property from current owners.  Linda Messmer made a motion to accept Resolution 3-2019, A Resolution Accepting Real Property, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.
  • Cleanups (see list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Cleanup list for July 10, 2019, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
  • Mowing (see list) -Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Mowing list for July 10, 2019, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

 

 

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Daniel Rose said that there is a still an old meter well outside 726/728 N Meridian that needs filled as well as an unsafe pipe.  Mayor Wyndham will send someone to look at these issues.  Mr. Rose was also concerned about the golf cart traffic at the Park during the 4th of July.  He was mostly concerned about the golf carts driving on the pedestrian sidewalks.  Janet McClellan suggested signage to remind drivers to stay off the sidewalks. Mr. Rose also complimented the City on a job well done with cleaning up properties, obtaining grants and paving the roads.

  • Clerk – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0
  • Utilities – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Linda Messmer; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
