MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR JULY 12, 2023

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on June 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

The Pledge was led by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Brian Wyndham, Linda Messmer, Ruthann Jeffries, Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen, and City Attorney Traci Orman.

OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Assistant Administrator Cathy Hunter, Hayley Cooper Brazil Times Reporter, DLC Media Reporter Frank Phillips, Police Department Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Department Chief Jake Bennett, Jill Bennett, Wastewater Superintendent Dallas King, and Tony Akes with Strand Engineering. 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from June 28, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

    PUBLIC SAFETY REPORTS:

    FIRE REPORT:

  • Chief Jake Bennett was Present to Discuss ISO Rating – Chief Jake Bennett gave an update on the City of Brazil ISO Rating, he explained that the rating had increased. 

    POLICE REPORT:

  • Chief Clint McQueen – No Report this Meeting

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Stormwater – Change Order/Amendment to Stormwater (GIS) Mapping Agreement with Strand Engineering.  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Change Order/Amendment to the agreement, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  Motion Passed 3-0. 
  2. Indiana Powder Coating:  Tax Abatement Request:
  3. Abatement Calculation Agreement (Real Property) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Real Property Tax Abatement for Indiana Powder Coating, seconded by Linda Messmer.  Motion Passed 3-0.
  4. Abatement Calculation Agreement (Personal Property) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Personal Property Tax Abatement for Indiana Powder Coating, seconded by Linda Messmer.  Motion Passed 3-0.   
  5. Planning and Zoning
  6. Mowing -see attached list – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Mowing List for July 12, 2023, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
  7. Clean Ups – see attached list – Linda Messmer made a Motion to approve the Clean Up list for July 12, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.

Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:

  • The next Board of Works meeting will be on July 26, 2023.

   ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries, seconded  

   by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.  The meeting was adjourned at 10:27 a.m.
