THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR FEBRUARY 9, 2022

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on February 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.

Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Traci Orman

OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from January 26, 2022, Memorandum of Executive Session from August 4, 2021, and Memorandum of Executive Session from August 18, 2021, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.

     OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Police 2021-2023 Contract Addendum – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Addendum to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Brazil and Fraternal Order of Police Clay County Lodge #114- City of Brazil Union, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.

     NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Chief McQueen would like to request that the board appoint Brandon Crowley as a full-time officer with the City of Brazil Police Department, with a start date of February 11, 2022.  Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the hiring of Brandon Crowley, full-time, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.

     FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Bennett

  • Chief Bennett briefed the board on the recent fire at Traditions and discussed the upcoming plans for the Fire Department to work with them on a plan for the future.

CLAIMS:

  1. Clerk’s Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
  • Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

FUTURE AGENDA: City Attorney Traci Orman is requesting a special meeting in March to Award the contract for the Wastewater Phosphorus Building.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Meeting was adjourned at 10:18 a.m.
