MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR APRIL 24, 2019

 

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on April 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, City Attorney Traci Orman, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett

OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Planning and Zoning Assistant Cathy Hunter, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Council Member Steve Bell, Brazil Times Editor Frank Phillips

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Wyndham.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from April 11, 2019; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

 

POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen

  • There were 500 calls for service in in March which led to 70 incident reports, 33 arrests, 29 tickets, 53 warnings, 18 crashes, 9 vehicle impounds, and 12 handgun permits.
  • There has been a reduction in vehicle crashes this year and Chief McQueen attributes it to the Hwy 40 project and the road paving in the City.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Resolution 2-2019: A Resolution Declaring Real and Personal Property as Surplus –The City of Brazil wishes to dispose of personal and real property through an auction. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve Resolution 2-2019, seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 3-0.
  • Cleanups (see list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the clean up list for April 24, 2019; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
  • 517 E. Oak St – Unsafe – Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan was present to request affirmation of the unsafe determination of 517 E. Oak St.  The City Building Inspector, Steve McKenzie, has inspected the property and determined it to be Insafe. Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Unsafe Building Affirmation for 517 E. Oak St., which is owned by Vinod Gupta; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 3-0.
