MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR FEBRUARY 25, 2015
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on February 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, City Attorney Traci Orman and Deputy Clerk Patty Bedwell
OTHERS PRESENT: Wastewater Superintendent Billy Goodrich, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Brazil Times Representative Ernest Rollings, Daniel Rose
PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was lead by Mayor Wyndham.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February 11, 2015, Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Mayor Wyndham seconded. The motion passed 2-0. (Linda Messmer was unable to attend the meeting due to Health Reasons.)
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
1.) Daniel Rose wants to know if the City of Brazil has secured any properties from the County. Mayor Wyndham stated that obtaining the properties which had originally had liens against them would enable the City to sell and recover costs incurred to clean up the property. Those properties, once acquired, would be removed from the Commissioner’s Tax Sale. Mr. Rose is interested in the property located on Colfax Street. Mr. Rose also asked about progress on the Meridian Street property located next to his property. Mayor Wyndham stated that availability of finances were the same as previously discussed, and that funds would be better spent cleaning up multiple properties, rather than one property, as stated during previous meetings.
OLD BUSINESS:
1.) Rewarding of Bid –High Service Pump Modifications – HWC Engineering has reviewed the proposals received on February 11, 2015 for the Brazil Water Treatment Plant- High Service Pump Modifications. The low bidder is Bastin Logan Water Services out of Franklin, Indiana. HWC has discussed the alternates with Shawnette Szekely of the Water Department and they have decided on Alternate #2 (new pump in lieu of rebuilding the existing pump). The total contract amount for Bastin Logan would be $63,348.00. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to accept the bid from Bastin Logan Water Services, in the amount of $63,348.00, to provide a new pump in lieu of rebuilding the existing pump. Mayor Wyndham seconded. The motion passed 2-0.
POLICE CHIEF REPORT: NONE
FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett
Emergency Calls –
The Brazil City Fire Department responded to several structure fires in January- February. The owners of a structure fire at 1104 Magnolia Drive in Edgewood
put an article in the Brazil Times to thank the Brazil City Fire Department.
Repairs – In January, Miller Emergency Vehicle service was on station to repair the Water Pump Primer on Engine 224. In February, Engine 224 was taken to Global Emergency Products for repairs and an inspection. Service has not been interrupted.
Training – Class Room Session on Fire Apparatus EVOC training has been conducted on both shifts during the months of January and February. Firefighters were recertified in CPR and AED Training in January. Assistant Chiefs Kellar and Archer are now certified as INSTRUCTOR 1 through the State of Indiana. Probationary Firefighter Brown has begun his FIREFIGHTER I//II class. Firefighter Garrison completed his FIREFIGHTER I//II class last year.

1.) Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Mayor Wyndham seconded. The motion passed 2-0.
2.) Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Mayor Wyndham seconded. The motion passed 2-0.
Note: On water adjustments, approval for 3 adjustments pending ability to read meter when weather permits. Previous attempts failed due to inclement weather.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. Meeting adjourned at10:30 a.m. The motion passed 2-0.
