MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR AUGUST 28, 2019

 

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on August 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Ruthann Jeffries.

ROLL CALL: Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Planning and Zoning Assistant Cathy Hunter.  Mayor Wyndham, Traci Orman, and Melissa Dorsett were absent.

OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Brazil Times Sports Editor Dennis Clark, Daniel Rose

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Ruthann Jeffries.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve minutes from August 14, 2019; seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 2-0.

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

 

            FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Jake Bennett

  • There were 55 calls for service compared to 39 calls in 2018.
  • Training: Firefighters conducted drill training on ropes in July and August and have been training on Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Department took part in area pipeline training hosted by Marathon.
  • In July, Firefighters visited First Christian Church Daycare for Safety and displayed a ladder truck.
  • In August, the Fire Department was on hand at National Night Out and Police Chief Clint McQueen also there.

 NEW BUSINESS:

  • Approval of Amended FEMA Deed: FEMA has prepared amended deed restrictions that need to be recorded in order for FEMA to close out this grant.  The cost of recording is $25 per property to re-record the deeds with the amended deed restrictions.  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the amended deed restrictions regarding Flood Buyout properties from Phase II: 21 W Maple (Biggs property) and 514 & 544 S. Depot St. (Wright property); seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.
  • Mowing (see list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the mowing list for August 28, 2019; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 2-0.
  • Cleanups (see list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the cleanup list for August 28, 2019; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 2-0.

 

AUDIENCE COMMENTS:  Daniel Rose asked when the house was coming down on 59 by the Park. Cathy Hunter said that it should be in September if all services are retired.  Mr. Rose commented that it would be nice to have the house down before the Covered Bridge Festival in October.

CLAIMS: 

  • Clerk – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 2-0
  • Utilities – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 2-0.

 FUTURE AGENDA: September 11, 2019 Board of Works meeting is moved to September 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. due to the 9/11 Ceremony on September 11th.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Linda Messmer.  The motion passed 2-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
