MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR APRIL 11, 2018

 

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on April 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett.  Linda Messmer and City Attorney Traci Orman were absent

OTHERS PRESENT: Street Superintendent Brian Bemis, Council President

Steve Bell, Council Member Roy Kellar, Brazil Times Editor Frank Phillips, Paula Vanatti

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Wyndham.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: March 28, 2018; Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.

 

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Cleanups – Three properties were on the list for approval for cleanup. It was noticed that two of the properties were on the clean up list from March 28thPaula Vanatti presented pictures of the property on 1114 Magnolia Drive and questioned the fines associated with cleanups.  Mayor Wyndham explained that the fines have been raised to $200 for landlords/owners and that residents can now be ticketed daily for violating the trash ordinance.  Mayor Wyndham also commented that he has recently had a productive conversation with the Clay County Health Department and that they are willing to help with properties that may fall under their scope (health issues).  Mayor Wyndham made a motion to approve the Clean Up list for April 11, 2018; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries.  The motion passed 2-0.

 

MAYOR COMMENTS:

  • Mayor Wyndham commented that INDOT had previously done damage to businesses when snow plows had plowed Hwy 40 this winter. Mayor said that he had a great meeting with INDOT and that we are working through the process of filing claims.

 

 

 

 

CLAIMS: 

  • Clerk – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve; seconded by Mayor Wyndham. The motion passed 2-0.
  • Utilities – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve; seconded by Mayor Wyndham. The motion passed 2-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Mayor Wyndham.  The motion passed 2-0.  Meeting was adjourned at 10:51 a.m.
