MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR OCTOBER 25, 2017

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on October 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, City Attorney Traci Orman, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett
OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Vicki Lawhorn, Oscar Sison, Daniel Rose
PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Wyndham.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: October 11, 2017; Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
OLD BUSINESS:
1.) Oscar Sison – Water Adjustment – Business owner Oscar Sison was present to request a water adjustment for his 9/11 bill and 9/28 bill due on 10/10/17. Mayor Wyndham said that we have already given a June and July adjustment totaling $1392.49 and that we normally only allow one adjustment per year. Mayor Wyndham said that to give a third and fourth adjustment would go against policy. Mr. Sison explained again that there was a water leak and made an appeal to the Board to grant an adjustment. Linda Messmer and Ruthann Jeffries agreed with Mayor Wyndam. Linda Messmer and Ruthann Jeffries denied the request because of the policy. Mr. Sison thanked the Board for the opportunity to speak.
NEW BUSINESS:
1.) Clean-Ups – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the clean-up list for October 25, 2017; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
2.) Mowing – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mowing list for October 25, 2017; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
3.) Unsafe Building Affirmation – Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan made a request for the following properties to be affirmed as unsafe:
408 Edgewood Drive
804 E. Kruzan Street
302 S. Walnut Street
233 N. Depot Street
Building Inspector Troy McQueen has been through all four homes and recommended them to be deemed unsafe. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the four properties as unsafe; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

1.) Clerk – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
2.) Utilities – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Meeting was adjourned at 10:34 a.m.
