MINUTES OF
THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR FEBRUARY 8, 2023
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on February 8, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Traci Orman
OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Fire Union President Zach Mormans, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Assistant Cathy Hunter, Brazil Times Representative Nick Wilson
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from February 1, 2023, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: NONE
FIRE REPORT: Chief Jake Bennett
- On February 2nd Brazil City Firefighters assisted in a metal pole barn fire district in the Van Buren district and were able to contain the fire until the volunteers arrived on scene.
- On February 6th, firefighters were called to a porch fire on 319 W. Blaine St.
- February 7th, firefighters were called to a garage fire on 714 W. North St.
OLD BUSINESS: NONE
NEW BUSINESS:
- Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement: Graves Construction Services, Inc. -Pay Application No. 2 – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve Pay Application No. 2 in the amount of $202,979.50, from Graves Construction Services, Inc., for work on the Chemical Feed Building at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. This project will be paid from the Sewage Bond.
- Clean ups: (see attached list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Clean Up List for February 8, 2023, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Phone Stipend addition – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to add Sheryl Hill, (Utilities’ Office), to the monthly $30 phone stipend, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
OTHER COMMMENTS:
Ruthann Jeffries read a request from the Utilities’ Office to increase the four cash drawers in the office from $20 to $100 due to an increase of customers using cash for payments.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
- The next Board of Works meeting will be on February 22, 2023
ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries, seconded
by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Meeting was adjourned at 10:12 a.m.
