THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR JANUARY 27, 2021
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on January 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.
Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Traci Orman.
OTHERS PRESENT: Police Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, PZ Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Asst. Cathy Hunter, Daniel Rose
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from January 13, 2021; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0
NEW BUSINESS:
- Façade -Approval for pay apps 4, 5, & 6 – These are the final three pay apps for the Façade Improvement Project. A walk through has been completed. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve pay application #4 for $29,241.38, #5 for $475.00 & #6 for $21,236.99 for the Façade Improvement Project, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- 2021 Engagement Letter -Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the 2021 Engagement Letter explaining the scope of services between Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan and to employ attorney Traci Orman as the City Attorney for the City of Brazil, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
- Resolution 1-2021: Authorization for Trash Request for Proposals – The current trash collection service contract will end September 2021. Linda Messmer made a motion to approve Resolution 1-2021, Authorizing the Issuance of the Request for Proposal regarding Curbside Residential Trash Collection Services for the City of Brazil, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
- Right of Way -18 S. Murphy-Electricom – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Right-of-Way Permit No. 2100017 on 18 S. Murphy by Electricom, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen
- Chief McQueen asked the board to appoint Nicholas Ferry as a full-time officer with the City of Brazil. Linda Messmer made a motion to approve Nicholas Ferry as a full-time officer with the City of Brazil, with a start date of January 29, 2021, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0. Nicholas will attend a satellite academy in Terre Haute due to Covid precautions.
FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Jake Bennett
- Chief Bennett recently did a final inspection on the new fire engine. It is expected to be here by mid to late February.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
