MINUTES OF
THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR JUNE 23, 2021
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on June 23, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, City Attorney Traci Orman, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett
OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from May 21, 2021, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. (Mayor Wyndham was absent). The motion passed 2-0. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve minutes June 9, 2021; seconded by Mayor Wyndham. (Linda Messmer was absent). The motion passed 2-0.
POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen
- Police had 1129 calls for service in May, which led to 72 incident reports, 35 arrests, 37 tickets, 102 warnings, 13 crashes, 20 vehicle impounds and 10 handgun permits.
- Nick Ferry is currently in virtual training and will soon start in person training at the Police Academy for 3 months.
- Officers are ready for the 4th of July celebration.
- City police have been working with Planning and Zoning on property cleanups.
OLD BUSINESS:

Bids were received from S T Construction, Inc., Milestone Contractors South, LLC., and DC Construction Services, Inc. GAI Consultants reviewed all bids and has made a recommendation to award the 2021 Street Repair and Resurfacing Project to S T Construction Inc. in the amount of $360,582.54. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Notice of Award, Agreement for Services, and authorize Mayor Wyndham as signatory for future documents, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
FUTURE AGENDA: The next meeting will be on July 14.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Meeting was adjourned at 10:28 a.m.
