THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

FOR MAY 11, 2022
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on May 11, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Traci Orman
OTHERS PRESENT: Water Superintendent Shawnette Szekely, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Gretchen Stone from the Brazil Times
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve minutes from April 27, 2022, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
- Right of Way Permit – 295 N. Murphy – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Right of Way Permit for Joink, LLC for 295 N. Murphy, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Community Crossings Agreement with State – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Local Roads and Bridges Matching Grant Agreement between the Indiana Department of Transportation and the City of Brazil to enable the State to award a Grant of $189,405.53, representing 75% of the eligible costs of the Paving Project for 2022, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
- Engagement Letter: Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan – Wastewater Treatment Plant – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Engagement Letter from Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan, LLP to represent the City in its Wastewater Treatment Plant – Phosphorus Building project, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Engagement Letter: Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan – I-70/SR 59 Project – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Engagement Letter from Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan, LLP to represent the City in the I-70/SR 59 wastewater project, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Approval of Clean-Ups (see list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Clean Up list for May 11, 2022, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Approval of Mowing (see list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Mowing list for May 11, 2022, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed. 3-0.
CLAIMS:
Clerk’s Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: The next meeting is scheduled for May 25, 2022. Extra meetings may be scheduled in June to review Bids.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Meeting was adjourned at 10:20 a.m.
