MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR November 13, 2024
A meeting of the Common Council was held on November 13, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.
PRAYER: Was led by Karen Boes.
ROLL CALL: Council members present, Shane Litz, Steve Bell, Karen Boes, Brad Deal, and Angie Modesitt.
OTHERS PRESENT:
- Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen, City Attorney Ashley Brown, Brazil Times Representative Hayley Cooper and Attorney Jim Deal.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Shane Litz made a motion to approve minutes from October 23, 2024 seconded by Steve Bell. The motion passed 4-1. Brad Deal abstained.

OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
- Public Hearing for two Petitions for Vacation of Alleys – Mayor Brian Wyndham opened the meeting for the public hearing at 5:06 pm. With no Public comments the public hearing was closed at 5:07 pm.
- Ordinance 16-2024 a Petition for Vacation of Public Alley – Alley in Price and Myer’s Addition – Brad Deal made a motion to suspend the rules and pass Ordinance 16-2024 on the first reading, seconded by Karen Boes. Motion Passed 4-1. Angie Modesitt abstained from the vote. Brad Deal then made a motion to Approve Ordinance 16-2024, seconded by Steve Bell. Motion Passed 4-1. Angie Modesitt abstained.
- Ordinance 17-2024 a Petition for Vacation of Public Alley – Alley running North and South in Fairview’s Addition – Brad Deal made a motion to suspend the rules and pass Ordinance 17-2024 on the first reading, seconded by Karen Boes. Motion Passed 4-1. Angie Modesitt abstained. Brad Deal then made a motion to Approve Ordinance 17-2024, seconded by Steve Bell. Motion was Passed 4-1. Angie Modesitt abstained.
COUNCIL COMMENTS:
- Angie Modesitt – None
- Steve Bell –Informed council members that he had attended a Thrive meeting concerning the new bus service that the City of Brazil would soon have. He stated that the bus service should start the first of the year
- Brad Deal – Wanted to inform other council members that Terry Wilson retired Police Officer passed away. Also, that Char Chamberlain had passed away. He stated that we would be praying for them and their families.

- Shane Litz – None
MAYOR COMMENTS:
- Mayor Brian Wyndham informed council members that the City of Brazil could purchase new LED Street Lights down US Highway 40 for the price of $41,831.00. The Clerk – Treasurer could send council members a funding source for this purchase. Shane Litz made a motion for the mayor to go ahead and order the LED Street Lights, seconded by Brad Deal. Motion approved 5-0.
- Mayor Brian Wyndham then asked permission from the council to give all employees a $500.00 bonus on December 6, 2024. The council unanimously agreed to the bonus to be paid out of each of the department’s funds.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: the nextCouncil Meeting is on December 11, 2024.
ADJOURNMENT: Brad Deal made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motionpassed 5-0. Meeting adjourned @ 5:31 p.m.
