MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR MAY 8, 2024
A meeting of the Common Council was held on May 8, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.
PRAYER: Prayer was led by Karen Boes.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Brian Wyndham and Council Members, Steve Bell, Karen Boes, Brad Deal, Shane Litz and Angie Modesitt.
OTHERS PRESENT:
- Deputy Clerk Treasurer Melissa Dorsett, Brazil Times Representative Hayley Cooper, Attorney James E. Deal
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Angie Modesitt made a motion to approve minutes from March 13and April 10, 2024, seconded by Steve Bell. The motion passed 5-0.

OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
- Ordinance 3-2024: Street Vacation request from Rosie McIntire (Fairview’s Addition between lots 25 and 26)
Attorney James E. Deal was present to request a vacation of public street for Rosie McIntire. The street is located within the block bounded by McGuire Street on the west, Park Street on the north, Desart Street on the east, and Central Avenue on the south. It was mentioned that Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan was against the request due to the constant issues involving the properties owned by Rosie McIntire. A large file of complaints accumulated from previous years was presented. Steve Bell made a motion to suspend the rules and pass on the 1st Reading, seconded by Brad Deal. The motion passed 5-0. Steve Bell made a motion to approve Ordinance 3-2024, seconded by Karen Boes. The motion passed 4-1. Angie Modesitt abstained.

- Brad Deal – Asked about the new Dollar Store project. Mayor Wyndham stated that the project was no longer happening. Brad was also happy to see KFC mowed but noticed tall grass issues on Washington and Hendrix. Brad wanted to thank Wastewater Supt. Dallas King for looking at flooding issues in his neighborhood and working on a solution.
- Karen Boes – Karen has noticed a pig in her ward. Mayor Wyndham will contact Janet McClellan to investigate if this is an Ordinance violation.
- Shane Litz – Shane commented that Brazil was fortunate to not have the traffic issues that were expected due to the eclipse.
MAYOR COMMENTS:
- Bids will be coming is soon for Community Crossings and before they start paving we need to repair many of the road cuts from previous cuts. Some are from the City water leak crew and others are from Joink. The mayor would like the Council to consider using ARPA funds to fund the repairs.
- The water crew has been busy working on replacing more sections of the water lines instead of just repairing small sections.
- The wastewater crew has been busy doing sidewalks in the City. Also, the new building at Wastewater is finished.

ADJOURNMENT: Brad Deal made a motion to adjourn meeting, seconded by Karen Boes. Motion passed 5-0. Meeting adjourned @ 5:55 p.m.
