MINUTES OF
THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR NOVEMBER 27, 2024
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on November 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
The Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Andrea Moon, City Attorney Lou Britton
OTHERS PRESENT: Police Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Brazil Times Rep. Hayley Cooper, Water Superintendent Shawnette Szekely, Grant Administrator Kristy Jerrell.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from November 13, 2024, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None
OLD BUSINESS: None
PUBLIC SAFETY: Fire Chief Jake Bennett
- In October 2024, the Fire Department responded to 74 calls for service.
- In November, (through Nov. 25th) the Fire Department responded to 51 calls for service.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Public Hearing began at 10:10 a.m. Grant Administrator Kristy Jerrell and Water Superintendent Shawnette Szekely spoke about the details of the water main project along highway 40 East of town. Grant awarding is at the end of February, 2025 and if awarded, the project should start mid-summer 2025. Public Hearing was then closed at 10:24 a.m. Kristy Jerrell to follow with report.
- Shawnette noted that her crew has only 24 asphalt repairs left out of the 80 they began with.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
- The next meeting will be held December 11th, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers. A discussion was had for the last meeting of the year to be moved to December 23rd, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Linda Messmer, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0. The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
