MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR AUGUST 14, 2024
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on August 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
The Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Lou Britton
OTHERS PRESENT: Attorney Ashley Brown with Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, PZ Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Assistant Cathy Hunter, Brazil Times Rep. Haylee Cooper
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from July 24, 2024, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None
PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT: Police Chief Clint McQueen (see attached report)
- There were 598 calls for service in July, which led to 70 incident reports, 10 arrests, 14 tickets, 50 warnings and 15 crashes.
- State Mandatory training is near completion for 2024.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
- Change Order No. 6 – Splash Pad – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve Change Order No. 6 for $7,116.00 for services provided by Knust Excavating, not included originally in the contract amount, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Planning and Zoning:
- Mows- (see attached list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mow list for August 14, 2024, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Clean-Ups – (see attached list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the clean-up list for August 14, 2024, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
- The next meeting will be August 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers
