MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR JULY 24, 2024
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on July 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
The Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, and City Attorney Traci Orman.
OTHERS PRESENT: Attorney DJ Bonomo with Cox, Zwerner, Gambill & Sullivan, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, PZ Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Assistant Cathy Hunter, Brazil Times Rep. Haylee Cooper
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from July 10, 2024, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None
PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett (see attached report)
- In June 2024 the Fire Department responded to 77 calls for service.
- Burn Permits – Anyone wanting to have a small fire in City limits must go on the website and apply for a burn permit.
- New hire Tanner Wilson is going through training levels I and II and will soon begin EMT courses.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
- Approval of Jerrell Consulting Invoice [income survey) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve invoice 1 of 2 for $1200 from Jerrell Consulting for services on a 2024 Income Survey, related to the Water Improvements Construction Project, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- City Auction
- Resolution No. 5-2024: Declaring Surplus Personal Property – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve Resolution No. 5-2024, a Resolution Declaring Personal Property, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
- Contract with Zack Wise – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Contract for Sale of Personal Property at Public Auction with the City of Brazil and Zack Wise, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0. The auction will be August 21st at 6:00 pm at Craig Park.
- Planning and Zoning:
- Mows- (none)
- Clean Ups (see attached list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the clean up list for July 24th, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
- The next meeting will be August 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers
