MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR JULY 10, 2024
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on July 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
The Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, and City Attorney Traci Orman.
OTHERS PRESENT: Attorney Lou Britton, Water Superintendent Shawnette Szekely, PZ Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Assistant Cathy Hunter, Brazil Times Rep. Haylee Cooper
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from June 26, 2024, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.

OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
- Fire:
- Fire Protection Agreement with IVC (PPG)
- Fire Protection Agreement with Hancor, Inc.
Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Agreement for Fire Protective Services between the City of Brazil and I.V.C. Industrial Coatings, Inc., and the Agreement for Fire Protective Services between the City of Brazil and Hancor, Inc., seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Both agreements will be in effect from January 1, 2024 until December 31, 2027.
- Planning and Zoning:
- Mows (see attached list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mow list for July 10th, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Clean Ups (see attached list) – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the mow list for July 10th, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
- The next meeting will be July 24, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers. There will also be a Public Hearing to discuss the Public Facilities Grant.
MAYOR COMMENTS:
- Mayor Wyndham introduced Attorney Lou Britton from Cox, Zwerner, Gambill and Sullivan, who will be taking over for Attorney Traci Orman, as our legal representative. Mayor Wyndham congratulated Traci on her new career move and noted that she will be greatly missed.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries seconded
by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. The meeting was adjourned at 10:09 a.m.
