MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR JUNE 26, 2024
A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on June 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
The Pledge was led by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, and City Attorney Traci Orman.
OTHERS PRESENT: Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, PZ Administrator Janet McClellan, PZ Assistant Cathy Hunter
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the minutes from June 12, 2024, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None
PUBLIC SAFETY REPORT: Police Chief Clint McQueen (see attached report)
- The Police Department had 671 calls for service in May which led to 88 incident reports, 20 arrests, 41 tickets, 95 warnings, 18 crashes and 6 vehicle impounds.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
- Fire: Agreement with Ascension – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the Brazil Fire Department 2024 Service Agreement between St. Vincent Health, Wellness & Preventative Care Institute, Inc. d/b/a Ascension St. Vincent Safety Medical and the Brazil Fire Department, and designate Chief Bennett as signatory for documents, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. This is a yearly requirement by OSHA for physical and preventative testing.
- Planning and Zoning:
- Mows (see attached list) – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mow list for June 26th, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
CLAIMS:
- Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the claims from the Clerk’s Office, seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.
- Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the claims from the Utilities’ Office, seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
- The next meeting will be July 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
CITY ATTORNEY COMMENTS:
- City Attorney Traci Orman wanted to thank the Fire and Police Departments, on behalf of the Brazil Public Library Board, for their participation in the Summer Reading Program.
ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Linda Messmer seconded
by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0. The meeting was adjourned at 10:12 a.m.
