Stormwater can be found everywhere!  According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “Stormwater runoff is generated from rain and snowmelt events that flow over land or impervious surfaces, such as paved streets, parking lots, and building rooftops, and does not soak into the ground. The runoff picks up pollutants like trash, chemicals, oils, and dirt/sediment that can harm our rivers, streams, lakes, and coastal waters.”

The City of Brazil’s stormwater conveyance infrastructure is known as a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) and is regulated by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) through a general permit. This permit contains a number of best management practices that help guide the municipality in making sure our stormwater quality and quantity are maintained in the best ways possible.
