MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR December 11, 2024
A meeting of the Common Council was held on December 11, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.
PRAYER: Was led by Steven Bell.
ROLL CALL: Council members present, Shane Litz, Steve Bell, and Brad Deal. Angie Modesit and Karen Boes were absent.
OTHERS PRESENT:
- Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen, City Attorneys Lou Britton and Ashley Brown, Cassie and Aaron Parkins City of Brazil Business owners and Brazil Times Representative Hayley
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Brad Deal made a motion to approve minutes from November 13, 2024, seconded by Shane Litz. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: Cassie and Aaron Parkins, business owners of Core Physical Therapy, were present to request 3 parking spaces for their business on Sherfy Street. They would request the spots to be designated Monday through Friday from 8-5 p.m. The council unanimously decided that the parking spots should be granted. City Attorney Lou Britton will prepare an Ordinance.
OLD BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS:
1.) Sarah Trover- Director of the Brazil Public Library- Not present
2.) Fireman Union Salary Contract – Council members signed new updated contract.
3.) Humane Society- 2025 Animal Contract- Brad Deal made a motion to approve the 2025 Humane Society Contract for $25,000.00, seconded by Steve Bell. Motion Passed 3-0.
4.) Ordinance 18-2024 Declaring an Economic Development Target Area – Shane Litz
made a motion to suspend the rules and pass Ordinance 18-2024 on the first reading, seconded by Steve Bell. Motion Passed 3-0. Shane Litz made a motion to approve
Ordinance 18-2024, seconded by Steve Bell. Motion Passed 3-0.
5.) Resolution 9-2024 designating an area within the city as an Economic Revitalization Area and an Economic Development Target Area for the purpose of a Real Property Tax Abatement – Timberland Home Center, Inc. – Steve Bell made a motion to approve a Resolution 9-2024 with a IO-year abatement, seconded by Shane Litz. Motion Passed 3-0.
COUNCIL COMMENTS:
- Angie Modesitt – None
- Steve Bell – Wanted to know what the current Ordinance was on Political signs, such as putting them up and taking them
- Brad Deal – Commented on how well the Christmas Parade was, he was happy that city residents helped cleaning up after the
- Karen Boes – None
- Shane Litz – Commented how well the Christmas Parade
MAYOR COMMENTS:
- Mayor Brian Wyndham followed up concerning the Christmas Parade about the handing out of He stated that he was not sure if there was a good answer for handing out the candy during the parade.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: the next Council Meeting is on December 30, 2024.
