MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR October 23, 2024
A meeting of the Common Council was held on October 23, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Council Member Shane Litz.
PRAYER: Was led by Karen Boes.
ROLL CALL: Council members present, Shane Litz, Steve Bell, Karen Boes, and Angie Modesitt. Council member Brad Deal and Mayor Brian Wyndham were absent.
OTHERS PRESENT:
- Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen, City Attorney Ashley Brown, Brazil Times Representative Hayley Cooper, Brazil City Fire Fighter Cody Byers and Rick Anderson with Veregy.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Steve Bell made a motion to approve minutes from October 9, 2024 seconded by Angie Modesitt. The motion passed 4-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None
OLD BUSINESS:
- Adoption 2025 Budget – Angie Modesitt then made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 14-2024, seconded by Steve Bell. Motion Passed 5-0.
- Ordinance 6-2024 – Salaries for Appointed Officials & Employees – Steve Bell made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 6-2024, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion Passed 4-0.
- Ordinance 7-2024 – Salary for the Mayor – Steve Bell made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 7-2024, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion Passed 4-0.
- Ordinance 8-2024 – Salary for the Clerk-Treasurer – Steve Bell made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 8-2024, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion Passed 4-0.
- Ordinance 9-2024 – Salary for the Common Council – Steve Bell made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 9-2024, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion Passed 4-0.
- Ordinance 10-2024 – Salary for Police – Steve Bell made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 10-2024, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion Passed 4-0.
- Ordinance 11-2024 – Salary for Fire – Steve Bell made a motion to approve the second reading of Ordinance 11-2024, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion Passed 4-0.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Veregy LLc Agreement – Karen Boes made a motion to approve the contract withVeregy, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion passed 4-0.
- Special Ordinance 15-2024 an Ordinance amending Ordinance 4-2024 – Steve Bell made a motion to suspend the rules and pass Ordinance 15-2024 on the first reading, seconded by Karen Boes. Steve Bell then made a motion to approve Ordnance 15-2024, seconded by Angie Modesitt. Motion passed 4-0.
- Set Trick or Treat Hours – Council decided to keep the same schedule as 2023 which was, October 30 & 31 from 5-8 pm.
