MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

BRAZIL, INDIANA

for August 14, 2024

A meeting of the Common Council was held on August 14, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. in Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

PRAYER:  Prayer was led by Angie Modesitt.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Brian Wyndham and Council Members, Steve Bell, Karen Boes, Brad Deal and Angie Modesitt.  Shane Litz was absent.    

OTHERS PRESENT:

  • Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen, City Attorneys Lou Britten and Ashley Brown, and Brazil Times Representative Hayley Cooper.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:   Karen Boes made a motion to approve minutes from July 10, 2024 and July 29, 2024 seconded by Angie Modesitt.  The motion passed 4-0.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS: None

OLD BUSINESS: None  

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Karen Schneiders with Thrive was present to discuss with Council the Bicycle Pedestrian Plan.  Karen showed Council members a map of route for the Bicycle Pedestrian Plan. 
  2. Rick Anderson with Veregy – Rick Anderson gave a presentation on final costs and decided to continue working on the contract.  The council is in favor of contract with Veregy.
  3. Chicken coop application for Elizabeth Lohrman – Application is in order and petition signed by all neighbors, everything appeared to be in order.  Chicken coop is visible by the road and the council would like to see a fence up so that it is not visible at the road.  The council decided to table approval of chicken coop. 
  4. Stormwater Ordinance 4-2024 – Not Discussed
  5. Contractors Ordinance 5-2024 – Angie Modesitt made a motion to approve Contractor’s Ordinance 5-2024, seconded by Brad Deal.  Motion Passed 4-0.

COUNCIL COMMENTS:

  • Angie Modesitt – None     
  • Steve Bell – None   
  • Brad Deal – Stated that City workers are doing a great job.  Explained to Council that drainage work that had been done by his home have been cleaned up and put back to normal. 
  • Karen Boes – None
  • Shane Litz – None

MAYOR COMMENTS:

  • Mayor Brian Wyndham stated that they are starting to spray streets with liquid road.  This is part of the Community Crossings Grant that the City was awarded.   

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: the next Council Meeting is a work session on August 28, 2024.

ADJOURNMENT: Brad Deal made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Angie Modesitt.  Motionpassed 5-0. Meeting adjourned @ 6:02 p.m.
