MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR JANUARY 10, 2018
A meeting of the Common Council was held on January 10, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Steve Bell, Brad Deal, Roy Kellar, Shane Litz, Mayor Brian Wyndham. Angie Modesitt was absent.
The Pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Brian Wyndham.
OTHERS PRESENT: City Attorney Traci Orman, Clerk-Treasurer Karen McQueen, Firefighters Chris Moon, Ryan Brown, Seth Haviland, Troy McQueen, Robert Bell, Zach Mormans, Brazil Times Editor Frank Phillips, Harvey Roscoe, Ruthann Jeffries, Frank Swearingen, Georgia Day, Brandy Pierce, Humane Society Representative Michelle Cannava, Shannon Willmore, Myca Hale
PRAYER was said by Roy Kellar.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: NONE
MEETING DATES AND TIME 2018: Council Meetings for 2018 will be the second Wednesday of every month at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The fourth Wednesday of every month will be reserved at 5:00 p.m. if needed.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Brad Deal made a motion to nominate Steve Bell as the Council President; seconded by Roy Kellar. The motion passed 4-0. Steve Bell made a motion to nominate Shane Litz as Council Vice President; seconded by Brad Deal. The motion passed 4-0.
OLD BUSINESS: Linda Jennings had mentioned that she would like to see a “Children at Play” sign at the corner of Joseph St. and Indiana St. Council would like to put a watch on the issue and get more data.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Fire Contract – Shane Litz made a motion to approve the 3-year Fire Contract with the City of Brazil for 2018-2020; seconded by Brad Deal. The motion passed 4-0.
- Council Appointment to Board of Zoning Appeals (1) – Brad Deal made a motion to appoint Shane Litz to continue as the Council representative to the Board of Zoning Appeals; seconded by Roy Kellar. The motion passed 4-0.
- Council Appointments to Advisory Plan Commission – Appointments to the Advisory Plan Commission are for 1 year. The 2017 appointments were Janet McClellan, Roy Kellar and Angie Modesitt. Shane Litz made a motion to appoint Janet McClellan, Angie Modesitt and Steve Bell to the Advisory Plan Commission for 2018; seconded by Brad Deal. The motion passed 4-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS:
- Shannon Willmore wanted an update on the contract negotiations with the City and the Humane Society. Mayor Wyndham has worked with Humane Society Mgr. Michelle Cannava and communicated that discussions are going well.
- Myca Hale asked about who she is to call when there is an animal issue. She was told to call the Police Department.
