MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR SEPTEMBER 23, 2015

 

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on September 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham .

ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Linda Messmer, Ruthann Jeffries, City Attorney Traci Orman, and Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett

OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Administrator Teresa Glenn, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Daniel Rose

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was lead by Mayor Wyndham.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  September 2, 2015

 Linda Messmer made a motion to approve. Ruthann Jeffries seconded.

The motion passed 3-0.

 

AUDIENCE COMMENTS:  

Mr. Rose asked for details about the plan for enforcement on the new trash ordinance.    Mayor Wyndham stated that we are looking to hire a new Code Enforcement Officer with the ability to write tickets for all code violations.

 

POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen

Chief McQueen would like the Board of Works to approve Casey Harder as a full time  Police Officer to the City of Brazil.  Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the hiring of Casey Harder as a full time Police Officer with the City of Brazil.  Ruthann Jeffries seconded.  The motion passed 3-0.

 

Linda Messmer would like to have Marv Moon, Parks Superintendent, trained with the Police Department so that he can have authority to write tickets for ordinance violations.

 

FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Jake Bennett

-The Brazil City Fire Department responded to multiple calls from September 8 through September 21.  These calls included emergency medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, smoke detector soundings, fire investigations and carbon monoxide checks.

Firefighters responded to several medical calls due to a power outage on September 17 caused by an electrical fire at the Duke Energy Substation at Depot and Church Streets.

Hydrant Flushing and Flow Testing began on September 8th and should be completed by September 25th.

Hose Testing was completed on September 16th.

-Chief Bennett announced the resignation of Jordan Garrison who took a position with Terre Haute.  Chief Bennett would like the Board of Works to approve a new hire, Zachary Mormans, as soon as the results of the physical and psychological testing are known.

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Approval for Clean-ups and Mowing – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the Clean-up and Mowing lists for September 23, 2015. Ruthann Jeffries  The motion passed 3-0.
  • Approval of invoices to Hendrich Title for searches – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve invoices from Hendrich Title for title work done on Blight Elimination Program homes. Ruthann Jeffries seconded.  The motion passed 3-0.  The following invoices were approved.

  • Clerk’s Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve. Ruthann Jeffries The motion passed 3-0.
  • Utilities’ Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Linda Messmer    The motion passed 3-0.

 

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Linda Messmer.  Meeting adjourned at10:33 a.m.  The motion passed 3-0.
