MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR MAY 27, 2015

 

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on May 27, 2015 at 10:03 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall.  The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Brian Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, City Attorney Traci Orman and Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett

OTHERS PRESENT:  Police Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Brazil Times Representative Ernest Rollins, Daniel Rose

PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was lead by Mayor Wyndham.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  May 13, 2015, Linda Messmer made a motion to approve.  Ruthann Jeffries seconded.  The motion passed 3-0.

 

OLD BUSINESS: NONE

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Approval for Clean-ups and Mowing – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mowing list for May 27, 2015. Linda Messmer   The motion passed 3-0.
  • Add Don Vanatti to the Telephone List – Retroactive back to January 2015 – Water Distribution employee Don Vanatti needs to be added to the monthly cell phone reimbursement list and needs to reimbursed cell phone pay back to January 2015. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to add Don Vanatti to the Cell Phone Reimbursement List and to reimburse pay back to January 2015.  Linda Messmer    The motion passed 3-0.

 

POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen

            –Police responded to 564 calls in April.

-The City is still working on dispatch consolidation with Clay County.

-Police are directing traffic at multiple 5K’s this summer.

FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Jake Bennett

-Chief Bennett explained the budget line for repairs and maintenance and the recent costs incurred for apparatus maintenance.  Chief Bennett explained that money can be transferred within “other services and charges”.  The “other services and charges” category is only at 33% of available funds.

Firefighters have been discussing communicable disease awareness with the Emergency Room Director at St. Vincent Clay Hospital.  Firefighters are learning to take preventative measures with every response.

Firefighters have been performing in house training in April and May.

Firefighters have visited local Kindergartens and Preschools in April and May.

 

AUDIENCE COMMENTS:   Mr. Rose asked if people are speeding on the newly paved roads.  Chief McQueen stated that they saw an increase in speeding at first, but lately they have not had any complaints.

  • Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve. Ruthann Jeffries    The motion passed 3-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries ; seconded by Linda Messmer.  Meeting adjourned at10:29 a.m.  The motion passed 3-0.
