MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR MAY 10, 2017

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on May 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett, City Attorney Traci Orman was absent.
OTHERS PRESENT: Wastewater Superintendent Billy Goodrich, Planning and Zoning Administrator Janet McClellan, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Brazil Times Representative Pete Wilson
PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was led by Mayor Wyndham.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: April 26, 2017; Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: NONE

OLD BUSINESS: NONE
NEW BUSINESS:
1.) Clean-Ups – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve property clean-ups for the property behind 1108 Magnolia, 716 Leavitt and 908 N. Alabama; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.
2.) Mowing List – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the mowing list: 323 Railroad St., 817 N. Meridian, 724 N. Harrison, 608 N. Columbia, 115 N. Charles B. Hall, 512 W. Logan, 816 S. Grant, 825 S. Leavitt, 726 S. Leavitt, 302 S. Walnut, 407 S. Chicago, 328 S. Chicago, 316 N. Desart; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0. Letters have already been sent out to property owners and charges will be levied against the owner of record. Properties can only be mowed once per month.
3.) Contract Change Order for Wallace Environmental Service LLC – Mayor Wyndham explained that the FEMA project is ending and we have one more property, 409 S. Forest, to tear down. The change order from Wallace Environmental Services LLC is for an additional $6,500 to tear down the property at 409 S. Forest. This will be 75% reimbursable. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve Change Order No. 1 between the City of Brazil and Wallace Environmental Services LLC for an additional $6,500; seconded by Linda Messmer. The motion passed 3-0.

2.) Utilities – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve; seconded by Ruthann Jeffries. The motion passed 3-0.

Park Drainage Project Update: Wastewater Superintendent Billy Goodrich
• The storm drain was put in before all of the recent rain and it drained well.
• 22 catch basin is coming tomorrow.
• All water will drain into the pond under the bridge at Forest Park.
• Several contractors have donated their time including Barrett Excavating and Groundworkz.
• Billy also wanted to recognize the role of Park’s Superintendent Marv Moon in helping with this project.
• The goal is to have the area dry for the 4th of July Carnival.
