MINUTES OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

BRAZIL, INDIANA

FOR JULY 8, 2015

A meeting of the Common Council was held on July 8, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Brian Wyndham.

ROLL CALL: Mayor Brian Wyndham, Ann Bradshaw, Brad Deal, Carrol Evans, Angela Modesitt.  Tyler Hutcheson was absent. Also in attendance: Traci Orman, City Attorney and Karen McQueen, Clerk-Treasurer.

The Pledge to the Flag was lead by Mayor Wyndham

PRAYER was said by Brad Deal

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:   June 12, 2015 and May 13, 2015.  Ann Bradshaw made a motion to approve minutes from June 12, 2015 and May 13, 2015.  Carrol Evans seconded.  The motion passed 3-0.

May 28, 2015 – Not enough present to approve minutes.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Morris Manufacturing – SB-1’s – Brad Deal made a motion to approve a-5 year abatement.  Ann Bradshaw   The motion passed 3-0.
  • Oath of Office – Angela Modesitt – Mayor Brian Wyndham swore new Council Member Angela Modesitt into office.
  • Appointment to Brazil Public Library Board – Ann Bradshaw made a motion to reappoint Betty Palm to the Brazil Public Library Board. Brad Deal   The motion passed 4-0.
  • Request for permanent handicapped parking sign-604 N Walnut – A request has been made to have a Handicap Parking Sign place on 604 N. Walnut St. The owner currently has to enter the house through the back.  Council would like to table the sign discussion until the next Council Meeting.
  • Resolution – Changing the Brazil Fire Equipment Fund – This resolution will allow the City to close the Brazil Fire Equipment Fund savings account and transfer the balance of $47,623.69 to a checking account.
  • Resolution – Closing the Fire Prevention Fund – This resolution will allow the City to close the Fire Prevention Fund and transfer the balance of $1152.24 to the General Fund.
  • Resolution –Closing the Health Care Claim Account – This resolution will allow the City to close the Health Claim Account and transfer the balance of $705.42 to the General Fund.
  • Resolution – Closing the Law Enforcement Fund – This resolution will allow the City to close the Law Enforcement Fund and transfer the balance of $261.70 to the General Fund.
  • Brad Deal made a motion to pass the Resolutions to close and transfer balances. Ann Bradshaw   The motion passed 4-0.

 

COUNCIL COMMENTS: NONE

MAYOR COMMENTS:

            Mayor Wyndham would like to see an appropriation of $3000.00 to fix damaged areas from the 4th of July Rotary Festival.  Brad Deal made a motion to take $3000.00 from the Rainy Day Fund to pay for repairs. Caroll Evans seconded.  The motion passed 4-0.
