MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
BRAZIL, INDIANA
FOR APRIL 8, 2015

A meeting with the Board of Public Works was held on April 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the Brazil City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Wyndham.
ROLL CALL: Mayor Wyndham, Ruthann Jeffries, Linda Messmer, City Attorney Traci Orman and Deputy Clerk Melissa Dorsett
OTHERS PRESENT: Planning and Zoning Administrator Teresa Glenn, Police Chief Clint McQueen, Fire Chief Jake Bennett, Brazil Times Representative Ernest Rollins, Larry Wallace and Jacob Sutton of Wallace Bros. Disposal
PLEDGE: The pledge to the Flag was lead by Mayor Wyndham.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: March 25, 2015, Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Linda Messmer seconded. The motion passed 3-0. April 6, 2015, Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Linda Messmer seconded. The motion passed 3-0.

OLD BUSINESS: NONE
NEW BUSINESS:
1.) Bid Opening – Bids were opened for demolition work on the FEMA Flood Buyout Phase II properties.
Knust Excavating – $35,750.00 (total)
Wallace Bros Disposal – $30,350.00 (total)
The Board of Works will take the bids under advisement and will award on Friday, at 10:00 a.m.
2.) Approval of Invoice to Midwestern Engineers, Inc. – An invoice from Midwestern Engineers Inc. was presented for payment. The invoice is for services provided on the Fire Station Feasibility Study. Linda Messmer made a motion to approve the invoice from Midwestern Engineers Inc. in the amount of $9,000.00. Ruthann Jeffries seconded. The motion passed 3-0.
3.) Approval of Invoice Phase II FEMA- Air Co. (Asbestos Removal) – An invoice from Air Co. was presented for payment. The invoice is for removal and disposal of asbestos containing duct tape and associated debris located in the basement at 549 S. Franklin Street in Brazil. Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve the invoice from Air Co. in the amount of $950.00. Linda Messmer seconded. The motion passed 3-0.

POLICE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Clint McQueen
-The Brazil City Police Department responded to 538 incidents in March.
-Officers Walters and Lord will be attending training at the Police Academy to
become Certified Officer Trainers.
-Chief McQueen is trying to communicate the traffic changes during the construction.
The Brazil Times has done an excellent job communicating recent changes.

FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Chief Jake Bennett
-The Brazil City Fire Department helped in the Great Dane Evacuation during a recent
bomb threat.
-Engine 224 is back in service. The Ladder Truck is currently being serviced.
-Chief Jake Bennett explained changes in the Down Duty Uniform.

COMMENTS:
-Ruthann Jeffries has heard complaints about parking on the East Side of Depot Street
by the Post Office. Mayor Wyndham said that No Parking signs are going up soon.

1.) Clerk’s Office – Ruthann Jeffries made a motion to approve. Linda Messmer seconded. The motion passed 3-0.
2.) Utilities’ Office – Linda Messmer made a motion to approve. Ruthann Jeffries seconded. The motion passed 3-0.

ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Ruthann Jeffries; seconded by Linda Messmer. Meeting adjourned at10:29 a.m. The motion passed 3-0.
